Tasting Notes
The Beringer Luminus Oak Knoll Chardonnay opens with vibrant, lifted aromas of candied Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, and white peach blossoms, underscored by subtle notes of toasted hazelnut and warm baking spices. On the palate, it delivers a refined balance of richness and crispness, where juicy orchard fruits like fresh apple and white nectarine meet creamy undertones of lemon curd, butterscotch, and meringue. Thanks to the cool-climate influence of the Oak Knoll District and thoughtful lees stirring (bâttonage), the wine exhibits a satiny, supple mouthfeel anchored by a distinct saline minerality and energetic acidity that carry through to a long, polished finish.
Winery History
Founded in 1876 in St. Helena by German-born brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer, Beringer Vineyards holds the distinction of being Napa Valley’s oldest continuously operating winery, having famously maintained operations straight through Prohibition by producing sacramental wine. Pioneering early winemaking innovations like gravity-flow processing and hand-dug hillside storage caves, the estate built an enduring legacy of hospitality by becoming the first California winery to offer public tours and tastings following Prohibition's repeal in 1934. Today, anchored by its iconic 19th-century Rhine House mansion, Beringer stands as a landmark of Napa Valley history and a global benchmark for quality, being the only producer to ever have both a red wine and a white wine named Wine Spectator’s #1 Wine of the Year.
