Winemaker Notes

The 2016 Joseph Drouhin Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru Rouge is a deep, powerful, and beautifully composed expression of Pinot Noir born from a frost-impacted vintage that yielded low quantities but exceptional depth. In the glass, it shows a dense ruby-purple color and opens with a commanding, complex bouquet featuring ripe dark fruits like black raspberry and candied fruits, tightly interwoven with notes of wild violets, musk, and sweet wood spice. On the palate, this Grand Cru showcases the classic, muscular structure of the Corton hill without any harshness, demonstrating a dense, velvety mid-palate texture ("gras") that masterfully counterbalances its youthful, fine-grained tannins and vibrant, mineral-driven acidity. Driven by the natural concentration of low-yielding old vines, it unfolds with layers of pure black currant, earthy leather, and cocoa before culminating in a remarkably persistent, savory finish. Approaching its prime drinking window in 2026, this harmonious and deeply resonant red Burgundy is beautifully structured to age effortlessly for another two decades.

About Winery

Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in 1880 in Beaune, Burgundy, by Joseph Drouhin, and has since grown into one of the region’s most respected wine producers. Over the generations, the family expanded its holdings to include vineyards across Burgundy—such as Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise—and later established Domaine Drouhin Oregon in the Willamette Valley. Today, the estate remains family-run by Joseph’s great-grandchildren, who continue the tradition of producing elegant wines with a focus on terroir and sustainable practices, including organic certification for their Burgundy vineyards since 2009
