Winemaker Notes

Pouring a dense, brilliant gold with a fine, persistent mousse, Pol Roger Pure Extra Brut NV opens on the nose with an inviting and delicate bouquet of white flowers, rose, and clove, which evolves into hints of fresh citrus, green apple, and subtle autolytic notes of yeast and bread crust. On the palate, this zero-dosage Champagne delivers an electric, bone-dry attack balanced by surprising fruit depth—showcasing crisp grapefruit zest, pear, and a touch of honeyed warmth. Its structure is taut and finely chiseled, driven by a vibrant, racy acidity and a distinct saline minerality that lingers through a clean, elegant, and persistent finish.

About Winery

Founded in 1849 by 18-year-old Pol Roger in Aÿ before relocating to Épernay, Champagne Pol Roger quickly established a reputation for crafting dry, elegant brut Champagnes heavily favored by the British market. Following the founder's death in 1899, his sons adopted "Pol-Roger" as their family surname, cementing the brand’s legacy through a commitment to traditional methods, such as manual riddle aging in deep, cool chalk cellars. The house forged an iconic historic bond with Sir Winston Churchill—who famously favored their vintage cuvées and struck up a lifelong friendship with Odette Pol-Roger—leading to the creation of the prestige Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill in his honor. Today, Pol Roger remains one of the few prominent, fiercely independent, family-owned Champagne houses, producing world-renowned cuvées across five generations.
