Winemaker Notes
The 2023 Chateau d'Esclans Garrus Rosé pours a luminous, pale peach-pink hue with shimmering golden reflections. Widely considered one of the absolute benchmarks for luxury, barrel-aged rosé, its complex nose offers a stunningly integrated bouquet of ripe white peach, passionfruit, and redcurrant, layered over sophisticated base notes of vanilla bean, toasted hazelnuts, white chocolate, and subtle oak spice. On the palate, this vintage delivers magnificent concentration, weight, and a rich, voluptuous texture that moves like fine Burgundy rather than standard rosé. Fermented and aged in French oak barrels, it balances this creamy density beautifully with a vibrant, mineral-driven acidity and a distinct saline edge. It concludes with an extraordinarily long, powerful finish that leaves lingering, exquisite traces of blood orange zest, spice, and a noble, stony minerality.
Winery History
Château d’Esclans, located in Provence, France, has roots dating back to the time of the Counts of Provence, but its modern fame began in 2006 when wine entrepreneur Sacha Lichine purchased the estate. His vision was to elevate rosé to the level of fine wine, and with the help of renowned winemaker Patrick Léon, he created Whispering Angel, which quickly became a global phenomenon. In 2019, luxury group LVMH acquired a majority stake, cementing Château d’Esclans as the leader of the “Rosé Renaissance” and a benchmark for high-quality Provençal rosé.
