The 2016 Joseph Drouhin Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru pours a brilliant, deep ruby-red hue in the glass. Born from a low-yield vintage that yielded remarkable fruit purity and density, the wine opens on the nose with an intense array of crushed dark cherries, wild blackcurrants, and red plum, intertwined with nuances of licorice, wild game, dark earth, and dried florals. On the palate, it exhibits classic Gevrey power balanced by Drouhin's signature finesse—delivering a concentrated, multi-layered core of ripe bramble fruit, cocoa, and savory spice. The structure is impressive, framed by firm yet velvety, fine-grained tannins and a vibrant streak of energetic acidity that carries the wine into a long, mineral-driven, and complex finish marked by lingering notes of crushed limestone and black tea.
About Winery
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in 1880 in Beaune, Burgundy, by Joseph Drouhin, and has since grown into one of the region’s most respected wine producers. Over the generations, the family expanded its holdings to include vineyards across Burgundy—such as Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Côte Chalonnaise—and later established Domaine Drouhin Oregon in the Willamette Valley. Today, the estate remains family-run by Joseph’s great-grandchildren, who continue the tradition of producing elegant wines with a focus on terroir and sustainable practices, including organic certification for their Burgundy vineyards since 2009
