Stags' Leap Winery

Stags' Leap Winery, located in Napa Valley's Stags Leap District, has a rich and colorful history dating back to the late 19th century. The estate's roots began in 1872 when the Grigsby family planted grapes on the land. In 1893, Horace Chase and his wife Minnie Mizner Chase established the winery, which flourished until Prohibition halted wine production in 1919. The property was later transformed into a resort by Frances Grange, who acquired it in 1913. Wine production resumed in 1971 under Carl Doumani, who restored the estate and built its reputation, especially for Petite Sirah. In 1997, the winery was sold to Beringer Wine Estates and eventually became part of Treasury Wine Estates. The estate is known not only for its wines but also for its storied past, including tales of lavish parties, eccentric owners, and even ghost stories.
